Optimistic and certain. The striking part is what's missing: of 100 episodes, exactly one lands in hedged territory. The variable that moves is what you think, never how sure you are — when you're pessimistic, you're just as assertive about it.
The pessimism is never about technology.
Every one of the most doom-leaning episodes is about power, not machines: Musk paying for votes, Brazil banning X, Meta dropping fact-checking, Trump's tariffs, CEOs picking sides. When the subject is the technology itself — GPT-4o, the ChatGPT super app, open models, Apple's new CEO — the score sits between 72 and 78. That is a coherent position, and it has a name: optimistic about the tools, sceptical about who is holding them.

Founder Tales is co-hosted, so this is the show's interviewing rather than one person's. In 2021 an episode carried 43 questions with a median length of 17 words. By 2025 it carried 118, median 10 — and the number of short, direct questions (5-9 words) went from 73 in a year to over a thousand. That is the shape of an interviewer who stopped explaining the question and started asking it.

Method and its limits: the transcripts carry no speaker labels, so questions stand in for host speech — in an interview show, sentences ending in '?' are overwhelmingly the host. That proxy leaks: Whisper occasionally ends a long guest sentence with a question mark. So the figures here are the ones that survive the leak — counts, the median, and unmistakably short questions. Mean length and 'longest question' are not reported, because those are exactly what the leak distorts.
How this was scored
Each episode's full transcript was read and scored on both axes, with a requirement to cite verbatim quotes as evidence; episodes without clear evidence were skipped rather than given a middling guess — 5 of 105 were. Founder Tales is deliberately excluded: it is co-hosted and guest-led, so its transcript is not one person's voice and scoring it would measure the room, not the host.
